A genuine breakthrough in daylily breeding, the aptly named Earlybird Cardinal is one of the earliest reds to bloom as well as a remarkably floriferous hybrid. Because it produces six or more fans per season, compared with the two to three fans of a typical daylily, and yields more than one flower scape per fan, the plant quickly forms a vigorous clump. The 4" trumpets are watermelon red with a yellow-green throat.
