Flaming Beauties™ Tulip Collection
Set your landscape ablaze in colour with the five fabulous varieties in our new Flaming Beauties Tulip Collection! The petals of each flamboyant flower has the distinctive, contrasting streaks referred to as "flames." Our Dutch bulb experts created this tulip assortment to display a kaleidoscope of colour in the garden--an ever-changing display of hues as the flowers mature.
Flamed tulips look spectacular when planted together in border fronts or large groups. For best performance and colouration, grow them where they'll receive at least some sunlight: alongside walkways, beneath deciduous trees, or next to your porch or patio. Be sure to save some for the cutting garden, too. Wherever you use these vibrant varieties, the neighbours are sure to notice!
Tulipmania and Flamed Tulips
In the early 1600s, a frenzy of tulip bulb buying and selling called Tulipmania swept through Holland. It started when growers started noticing that a fraction of the bulbs they'd planted, instead of producing monochromatic flowers, inexplicably yielded blooms that "broke" into colourful streaks and flames. People were so taken by these rare "broken" tulips that the bulbs fetched enormous sums of money. We now know that a virus caused those gorgeous splashes of colour 400years ago. The varieties in our Flaming Beauties Tulip Collection were carefully bred to mimic those patterns, and are 100% healthy and vigorous!
Includes 5 each of the following tulip varieties:
- Lemon Chiffon: Subtly hued Lemon Chiffon has a flame shape with lemon-yellow cups streaked with white. Gorgeous in any setting but particularly fetching when planted in drifts with other, differently coloured tulips. Grows 18-20" tall.
- Princess Irene: With a colour palette that's fit for royalty, this award winner features brilliant orange petals with deep purple flames. Its regal flowers are ideal for fresh bouquets. Grows 14-16" tall.
- Carnaval de Rio:Â As colourful and splashy as the Brazilian festival it's named for, this tulip yields outsize, deeply cut, white blooms that flaunt scarlet-red flames. Stuns in mass plantings and vases. Grows 16-18" tall.
- Flaming Flag: Professional growers love Flaming Flag's staying power as a cut flower. The striking, 3½-4" blooms have the classic tulip shape but striking colouration--snow white petals with streaks of rich purple. Grows 14-16" tall.
- Rainbow Parrot: A fragrant and lavish variety, its feathery form is highlighted by splashes of yellow, green and rich brownish red. Plant in a seasonal border or use as a striking addition to fresh-cut arrangements. Grows 12-14" tall.
