Towering stems carry up to 20 fragrant, trumpet-shaped blooms, each shining white with reddish purple streaks that lure butterflies all summer. This rarely offered lily adds early texture with its hostalike 15" leaves before the dramatic flowers appear. Unlike most lilies, the main bulb dies after flowering, but it produces small new bulbs known as offsets that take 4–5 years to reach blooming size—and they’re well worth the wait! Awarded a place among the Royal Horticultural Society’s top 200 plants of the last two centuries, the Giant Himalayan Lily also forms decorative seed capsules that extend interest into autumn and brings striking presence to shaded borders or naturalized settings.
