Guinea-Hen Flower

Guinea-Hen Flower

Fritillaria meleagris is native to Europe and western Asia, and has been in cultivation for centuries. The name Meleagris means ā€œspotted like a guinea fowl.ā€ This fascinating plant features bell-shaped, 2" flowers with a unique chequered pattern. These graceful, nodding blooms, which grow one or two to a stem, are usually burgundy, but an occasional flower is white. Its tiny, greygreen leaves start to yellow in late spring to early summer. Can be grown in grass, rock gardens or water gardens, but we suggest planting in large groups. Naturalizes well.
